Jagged Ambush Bugs - Phymata erosa

This bug is almost invisible camouflaged on green/yellow flowers such as goldenrod. Their forelegs are adapted for seizing prey such as flies, bees, butterflies daytime moths and other true bugs. They are found throughout Canada and the US in meadows and gardens on flowers. It is believed that the black on the male heats up and increases his opportunities for mating.
These interesting creatures range in size from 3/8 to 1/2 inch.
