Northern Cardinal

Cardinalis
Unmistakeable with their brilliant red plumage and large black area surrounding a red bill. When excited these birds erect their crests and tails often flicking the tail as they call and feed.
7 1/2 to 9 inches. Song a loud clear throaty whistle.
Cardinals are resident in the US and Southern Ontario.
